Low Progesterone

“There is a large population if women in their mid thirties and on up suffering from the symptoms of estrogen dominance or low progesterone brought on by a sedentary lifestyle, poor diet, birth control pills, HRT, and exposure to environmental estrogens. Many of these women can find relief simply through exercise and a good diet. Others can solve their problems with a few herbs, vitamins and mineral supplements. Most of the rest find relief by using a natural progesterone cream.”
- Dr. John Lee (the pioneer of natural progesterone therapy)

Progesterone is one of two main female hormones. It is the major female reproductive hormone during the second half of the cycle and the main support of early pregnancy. As excess estrogen can cause decreased sex drive, weight gain and fat accumulation around the midsection and hips, vitamin and mineral imbalance, bloating, cystic breasts and irregular bleeding, maintaining proper progesterone levels restores hormone balance and the above symptoms disappear.

Progesterone is also an important hormone in its ability to maintain a woman’s memory, help her sleep, prevent anxiety, PMS and generally elevate the mood of her life. It also is vital to her healthy sex drive. Despite the belief that low testosterone is the problem with hypoactive sexual desire, elevating progesterone in many women cures this complaint.

Why does low progesterone develop? As women age into their late thirties and their reproductive capabilities decline, their ovulation becomes less efficient. The first part of the cycle, the rise in estrogen remains high, but the progesterone level produced in the second half is much lower. Hence the beginning stages of female hormone imbalance. Now without appropriate levels of this important hormone the above symptoms of poor mood, memory, sleep etc. begin. She now becomes estrogen dominant.

Restoring progesterone levels can help with weight loss or prevent weight gain, improve sex drive and generally revitalize her life!
